Abstract :
Ursula Bryan obtained her BSc in Mathematics from Southampton University in 1991 and she joined National Grid in the same year. She spent the early part of her career at National Grid´s research and development Leatherhead laboratories developing optimisation tools and applying data analysis to a wide variety of National Grid´s technical and business issues including power system planning, demand prediction and network maintenance planning. Since 1998 she has held asset management roles with particular emphasis on understanding asset and network performance and assessing asset and network risk. Prior to her current role she was an Asset Management Specialist supporting price control review work and played a lead role in the company becoming the first utility to achieve certification against BSI-PAS 55 in November 2005. She is now the electricity Asset Policy Manager with the Asset Management Directorate of National Grid Transmission in the UK. Her responsibilities span the whole lifecycle for all electricity transmission assets from the specification of new asset types, understanding asset condition and performance, developing maintenance policy, through to determining which assets need to be replaced. Ursula is a Member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications and is also a Chartered Mathematician. In 2009 she was appointed as a director on the Institute of Asset Management´s Board of Management.
