Abstract
Ultra wide band (UWB) electromagnetic tomography is a new tomographic imaging technique based on the propagation of ultra fast electromagnetic impulses through dielectric media. The spatial distribution of the illuminated media can then be reconstructed by inverse algorithms where the difference between calculated and measured fields are minimized using a gradient adjoint solution. The forward (direct), and the backward (inverse) time stepping algorithms are implemented with the (CFDTD) method together with perfectly matched layers (PML) absorbing boundary condition. The none-invasive nature of UWB EM pulses makes them a preferred choice for medical sensing application as tissues are not subjected to harmful radiations. UWB pulses, however, will suffer from different response modes due to the highly dispersive nature of biological tissue as they are mostly composed of water. This will impose additional complexity to the system. In this paper, results with real experimental data incorporating full view geometry are presented and discussed.
