Abstract :
IGBT Inverters have emerged as the AC motor drive of choice, however the harmonics and inefficiencies associated with 3-level IGBT inverters have led to the development of 5, 7 and 9-level IGBT inverters as a way of achieving high voltage (11 kV) operation. Recently PLEC´s has emerged as a graphical programming and modelling tool. Accordingly, ideal and non-ideal m-level IGBT inverters have been modelled and compared to theory. The cascaded H-Bridge m-level IGBT inverter models made and presented here represent a consistent match with THD, switching loss, on-state loss and power factor expectations.
