Abstract :
The investigation on water quality of Bailianjing River in Shanghai was carried out from May to October 2008, in order to realize the water quality status and supply enough detail information for the river-landscape improvement. Four sections were chosen on Bailianjing River (Dongsanliqiao Road, Pusan Road, South Pier Road and Pudong South Road) in the Expo area The results showed that the water pollution was serious in Bailianjing River. Water quality indexes, except for pH, were at class IV~V, according to surface water environmental standards. CODCr, BOD5, TN, NH3-N, TP averaged 41.7 mg/L, 26.1 mg/L, 7.2 mg/L, 2.1 mg/L and 1.6 mg/L, respectively. The water quality of Dongsanliqiao Road monitoring section was better than the others. Bailianjing River was polluted mainly by organic matter, and this may be relevant to the direct discharge of surrounding domestic sewage and industrial wastewater.
