Abstract
Fugitive methane, emitted from coal mines, landfill and animal waste etc. into atmosphere, is not only a greenhouse gas, but also a waste energy source if not utilized. This paper investigates a novel lean burn catalytic combustion gas turbine, which can be powered with low concentration fugitive methane. This paper presents our study results on performance of lean burn catalytic combustion and thermodynamic characteristics of this new lean burn catalytic combustion gas turbine system by conducting numerical analysis with commercial software Chemkin and Aspen Plus. The results show that the new system is feasible when the optimum operating conditions are selected.
