Abstract :
The chaotic behavior of monthly runoff time series is investigated using the phase-space reconstruction technique and chaotic theory. The runoff time series of main hydrology station on the south-to-north transfer via western route is studied. Relationship between embedding dimension and correlation dimension is discussed and saturation correlation dimension, minimum embedding dimension are calculated, the result show that the correlation dimension will steady with the minimum embedding dimension exceeding 6, and the saturation correlation dimension is between 1.1 and 1.5, then, the runoff time series is possibly chaotically, this research result can provides a scientific gist for runoff forecasting by chaotic theory.
