Abstract
The share of distributed generation (DG) in the electric network is expected to grow in the future. Furthermore, approx. 50% of the overall electric energy consumption in germany today is attributed to consumers connected to the low-voltage network. Due to missing communication and control, DG and loads in this grid area can not be observed nor controlled. This gives rise to grid problems in case of high share of DG. Optimized consumption and generation or low voltage grid supervision, as considered for future “smart grids”, are not possible without introduction of an energy management system with standardized communication and control.
