Abstract
This paper studies the performance of the three phase induction motor with different methods of braking, such as forward plugging, ac dynamic braking and reverse plugging braking using direct torque control (DTC). The simulation results are validated with the practical results under different conditions. The paper presents a solution to decrease the energy losses resulting from traditional methods of braking (in the form of heat energy and friction). The induction motor is tested to operate with constant load torque and traction load torque in different operating modes such as: -The normal operation, the operation in the second quadrant, the operation in the third quadrant and the operation in the fourth quadrant.
