Abstract
We review advances in devices and sensors based on solid-core photonic bandgap fibers. We present the mechanisms of light guidance in these fibers, and discuss applications such as for nonlinear propagation, fiber-based microfluidic refractive index sensing based on long period gratings or selectively filled, coated and uncoated photonic crystal fibers.
