Abstract
Nanoparticles (NPs) with carbohydrates as functional ligands are called glyconanoparticles, which has a multifunctional role in biomedical nanotechnology. The development of new class of functionalized nanoparticles with biologically relevant applications is of high potential in the field of nanotechnology. To this regard pharmacologically active naturally occurring amino sugar, glucosamine (GlcN) was covalently functionalized on the surface of metal nanoclusters through EDC/NHS coupling reaction in presence of non-ionic surfactant (Tween-20) and phosphate buffered saline. Fabricated metal glyconanoparticles were morphologically characterized by FE-SEM and AFM. Successful functionalization was further evinced from UV-visible, FT-IR and ´H-NMR spectral analysis. The obtained results demonstrate the nanofabrication of metal glyconanoparticles with homogeneous dispersion in water without suffering from irreversible aggregation and stable over broader pH values.
