Abstract :
Digital devices now dominate the worlds of art and photography. For many of us, our smartphone is now also our camera, and it is increasingly common to see people holding up tablets to take photos too. Weird as that might look to others, it highlights one of the key changes that digitisation has wrought: we can instantly see the results of our effort, and almost as instantly share them with others. Of course, mobile devices will never totally replace the portrait photographer???s camera and tripod or the landscape painter???s easel and palette, but they are more than adequate for many purposes ??? and in some respects, they are considerably more capable than the dedicated devices that they supplant.
