Abstract
Mach-Zehnder (MZ) modulator used in analog RF transmission system produces some nonlinear distortion and limits the transmission performance of an optical system significantly. Here we have presented an analytical approach to mitigate the higher order nonlinear distortion in a MZ modulator. Expressions have been derived in terms of RF dc biasing voltage as well as optical phase shift to minimize the nonlinear effects. Results show that the nonlinear effects become minimum when the optical phase is less than 90° and applied RF dc biasing voltage is within ±1/2, ±3/2 etc multiple values of the voltage that changes the output light intensity from maximum to minimum.
