Abstract :
By now, it has been established that the conventional engineering institutions in India are not properly geared up to offer courses on EMC education. Moreover, the target group does not comprise of conventional students but of need-based learners attached to workplaces having heavy-duty machinery prone to EMI. Such workplaces are spread over the entire country and some of those are remotely located. So it is not possible to cater to the need of those learners through the conventional mode. The system of Open Learning backed up by the methodology of Distance Education has the desired flexibility and the potential required for offering EMC education with an updated curriculum. The phenomenal advancement in technology can be made use of quite judiciously to extend the outreach of EMC education. It has already been given a try and there are indications that the said mode would be effective. This paper deals with different aspects of EMC Education and the strategy for its dissemination through the system of open learning and the distance mode of teaching. Among other issues, it discusses the relative weightages of different instructional modes, i.e. face-to-face teaching, teaching through media, teleconferencing, radio counselling, etc.
