  • Abstract
The transmission of IP packets over WDM technology (IP-over-WDM) is expected to be the basic transmission framework of the next generation network. In this paper, a novel architecture of optical network is presented. The optical network control plane is responsible for tracking the network topology and the state of network resources, and for establishing, removing and maintaining connections. These functions can be achieved using two fundamental protocols-the routing protocol for topology and resource discovery, and the signaling protocol for connection provisioning, maintenance and deletion. Additional protocols may also be used within the optical network control plane. By analysis and study of optical Internet architecture, a novel technology to construct the hybrid model architecture for IP over WDM systems is given and tested. The results show that the hybrid model architecture is efficient.
