Finite element model updating with incomplete complex modal data and structural parameters coupled with mass, stiffness and damping matrixes simultaneously for unsymmetrical damping system using optimization method is presented. By the use of finite element software-NASTRAN and mathematical tool-MATLAB model updating based on complex eigenvalue sensitivity analysis is successfully accomplished in this piece of work. The updating for simulation example about flexible rotor system, taking many cases into experiment and modeling errors account, is performed using bearing stiffness, bearing damping and diametrical moment of inertia parameters simultaneously. The results proved the effectiveness of the method of updating using complex modal data for unsymmetrical damping system. The proposed method could be used and extended to engineering easily.
