Based on the numerical instabilities such as checkerboards, mesh-dependence and gray regions in the topology optimization, the perimeter constraint of the nodal independent variable method with a variational upper bound is utilized; MAC matrix of model shape is introduced especially for overcoming the modal order change of model shape after every iteration from the topology variable change, to track and optimize the fixed order model shape. The independence sensitivity of modal damping ratio is analyzed using adjoint method. Furthermore, the design method of topology optimization using the nodal independence variable of constrained damping plate is given, and the most optimization topology configuration of constrained damping layer is obtained based on the method of independence mapping. As a whole, results indicate that the convergence of this method is good and the phenomena of numerical instability can be removed. In addition, it has strong feasibility and certain engineering practicability to use it in the optimization design of damping structure.
