  • Abstract
Virtual walkthrough is an emerging area of research in recent years and there are various develop tools. Virtual walkthrough interactive system, which has been developed with OpenGL and VRML technique, has filled with the characteristics of Virtual Reality(VR) like interaction and immersion, but requires certain programming skills to the developers in practice, and most systems have no information query function. Based on the 3D animation software 3ds max and real time VR editor Virtools, we developed a virtual walkthrough interactive system for Jiufeng Forest Park. The 3ds max is used for scene construction while the Virtools is used for scene visualization, users can control and interact with the virtual roles by mouse or keyboard. In addition, plants information can be easily queried just by mouse picking. The virtual walkthrough interactive system created by this approach not only has a strong sense of interactivity and immersion, also can carry out inquiries, all this provides a practical way for achieving the virtual walkthrough interactive system.
