Abstract :
This paper presents a performance comparison of an asymmetrical parameter type two-phase induction motor supplied with balanced and unbalanced phase voltages using a three-leg voltage source inverter (VSI). Sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) method with constant V/F control is used for the two phase three leg inverter. Simulation and experimental results are used to evaluate the motor performance. It is found that the unbalanced applied voltage case offers the better motor performance over the balanced applied voltage case in terms of torque ripple, speed holding capability and current trajectories, etc.
