Abstract
For a good Black-Start scheme, it is important to avoid inrush current and transient over voltage while starting-up other major power system equipments. In this paper, the advantages of VSC-HVDC as black start power are analyzed. Control Strategies of VSC-HVDC in different operating conditions are discussed. The ability of VSC-HVDC to soft energize major power system equipment is proved through simulation by software PSCAD/EMTDC. Simulation waveforms during soft energization are illustrated. These plots show that there is not any problem about inrush current and transient over voltage while using VSC as black start power. Simulation results indicate that this system has good stability during the whole black start process.
