Abstract
Wireless carriers (with 2G, 3G, or mixed networks) are experiencing explosive growth in Short Message (SMS) traffic. The increasing SMS load could soon exhaust the designed MSC capacity. To resolve the problem, a novel approach called SMS message bundling mechanism is introduced. The proposed solution improves MSC capacity by reusing the existing general MSC architecture with only one AP added. Firstly both the general and new architecture are introduced. Then based on the new architecture, the saved CPU time is calculated and analyzed. After that, the side effect, hundred-millisecond-level delay on SMS delivery brought by the new architecture is discussed. Finally, 3 test cases are designed and executed and the results show that the approach gains great capacity increase.
