Fundamental courses are of great significance in higher education since they are quite useful to develop students´ comprehensive capabilities. Effectiveness of teaching fundamental courses has direct impacts on achieving the objectives of higher education. In recent years, the absent rate of public fundamental courses has increased greatly. In particular, the hidden truancy has been becoming a new trend among contemporary college students. This paper attempts to find out the major reasons resulting in skipping class and propose some suggestions to improve the effectiveness of teaching. In this study, teaching evaluation, investigation and survey are organized. Through teaching practices for more than four semesters, it is found that diversified teaching methods are effective for improving teaching quality and students´ capabilities.
