Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are currently receiving significant attention due to their unlimited potential and many fields of application. Prolonged network lifetime, scalability, and load balancing are important requirements for many sensor network applications. Organizing sensor nodes in clusters is an effective technique for achieving these goals. In this work, we propose a new approach for reducing the energy dissipation in the network. The main idea behind the approach is the introduction of an edge node, which acts as both data aggregation point for all cluster heads and a communication point between the base station (BS) and the cluster field.
