There is an increasing demand for the transparency and traceability in food supply chain. From the raw material to the sale of goods, more and more information needs to be gathered and made available. Supplementary information may also be collected at any step, in order to provide data for analysis and optimization of production practices. Intelligent Information Technology such as Global Positioning System (GPS), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology and Electronic Ordering System (EOS) has had tremendous impact on manufacturing, transportation, retailing, customer services and so on. This paper will begin with a presentation of the status of China´s food logistics, thereby, providing a general overview on the applications and development prospects of intelligent information technology in food logistics.
