Abstract :
Nowadays, more and more people recognize the need for high education and as a result there are an increasing number of students in schools and universities. An important challenge faced by lecturers is to ensure that the performance of students does not degrade with the increase in class size. The increasing use of mobile phones by students at university has prompted the development of MODAss, a formative assessment system using mobile devices, for first year students. The paper explores how mobile technologies might support formative assessment practices. It further presents the framework and architecture of MODAss. A prototype of MODAss bas been developed and evaluated.
