Abstract :
Recent progress in multi-core fibers (MCF) for ultralarge-capacity transmission is reviewed. In addition to a traditional, homogeneous MCF with identical cores, a new type of MCF called heterogeneous MCF with not only identical, but also non-identical cores is introduced.
