Abstract
We present experimental investigation of pulse amplification characteristics of an Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA). Gain saturation of the EDFA pumped by a CW laser is precisely measured for input pulse widths from 100ns to 100μs. Pulse width dependence of the saturation power is discussed by applying a simple three-level model to erbium ions.
