Abstract
In this paper, the hydrostatic tank system, using the concept of uniform pressure distribution at the slump/socket interface was used to produce sockets which were compared with standard patellar tendon bearing (PTB) sockets. The results show that the interface pressure distribution of the hydrocast socket was more uniform compared to that of the PTB socket and subjective patient feedback reported the hydrocast socket to be more comfortable. Due to the simplicity, ease of use and the low cost this method of producing trans-tibial sockets is recommended for use in developing countries.
