  • Abstract
Gesture interaction offers intuitive operations of various kinds of devices and lots of the researches in this field has been done so far. They, however, deal with only simple and few operations, and when many kinds of complicated operations are required, it must be difficult to design intuitive gestures for them. Though, to solve this drawback of the gesture interaction, selecting items from menus by pointing using finger must be effective, it does not known how many items human can distinguishably point to in 3-D space correctly., In this paper, therefore, we investigated the human selection ability of the pointing in 3-D space. We conducted pointing experiments only using the wrist movements. The results showed that human can point distinguishably to only 9 areas in 2-D space using an index finger by adjusting the finger angles.
