"The Multimodality of Internet Use: Demographic Antecedents and Political Consequences"
by Lu Wei, Mingxin Zhang
in the 2010 2nd International Conference on Computer Engineering and Technology (ICCET) April 2010 V4-108 - V4-112
This study accentuates the multimodality of Internet use as a critical indicator of digital inequalities. Other than focusing on certain types of Internet activities, this study encompasses a broad range of online activities and investigates them collectively. While previous research concludes that the type of Internet activities matters, this study suggests that it is the number of types, or the multimodality of Internet use that matters. As multimodal Internet use has some consequences, Political Education should take more measures to enrich citizen\´s Internet use, especially among college student, to help enhance their life chances and social inclusion.
