Abstract
Total Multi-port Return Loss (TMRL) or, equivalently, Total Multi-port Reflectance is proposed as a relevant and simple Figure of Merit for multi-port (MIMO) antenna systems. TMRL is a straight-forward extension of the notion of Return Loss to multi-port antennas and suitable as the reference quantity on which to base a unique definition of the bandwidth of a MIMO antenna system. The meaning and application of the new parameter are discussed and quantitative examples for two-port MIMO antenna systems are given for illustration.
