Abstract :
A design concept for an innovative low-cost single substrate layer wideband microstrip antenna array is presented in this paper. The design features a thin single substrate, which supports radiating elements and feed lines, suspended over a metal plate. A prototype of the microstrip array was built and tested successfully. An operational bandwidth in excess of 26% was achieved. Ongoing research is dedicated towards further improving the operational bandwidth and radiation characteristics of the array.
