Abstract
The increasing number of radiofrequency and microwave antennas led to a growth of public concern related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields and possible health consequences. Our study investigated the levels of electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile phone base stations in Iasi, a town located in north-east of Romania. We focused on human exposure in dwellings located in the proximity of base station antenna sites as well as on buildings were roof-top antennas had been mounted. Different exposure situations were taken into account concerning the location of measurement points in relation to antenna and propagation conditions. Measurements were carried out in representative points for residential exposure to base station emissions and contribution of the base stations to the total electromagnetic field level has been separated. Our measurements showed that, in the investigated dwellings, the levels of electromagnetic radiation from base station antennas comply with exposure standards.
