  • Abstract
In this contribution we present an efficient technique to analyze the radiation from planar phased arrays with 1-D periodicity, residing in a layered background medium. Invoking the Perfectly Matched Layer (PML)-paradigm leads to the pertinent 1-D periodic Green´s functions of this background medium. Knowledge of these Green´s functions allows to construct a Mixed Potential Integral Equation (MPIE). The MPIE is discretized by the Method of Moments (MoM) and the unknown current density flowing within a unit cell of the periodic structure is determined. A stationary phase approach allows to compute the radiation patterns. The proposed formalism is illustrated and validated by evaluating the radiation by 1-D periodic microstrip phased arrays and by comparing the results with the solutions from an independent solver.
