Aimed at the difficulty of effectively analyzing fuel consumption characteristics for the conventional vehicle, this paper combined with the engine work time and engine fuel rate based on the vehicle´s drive cycles, and used visual analysis to find out the engine fuel consumption characteristics of the detail three-dimensional distribution. The results show that, for the actual engine operating point of vehicle´s urban drive cycles, the vast majority is falling into the low speed and low-load zone, and in these regions engine consumes too much fuel. Furthermore, the results can also indicates the direction of energy-saving design of the engine, i.e. high efficiency of engine MAP should be matched with the low-speed and low-load zone according to the vehicle´s drive cycles. and engine should be downsized by hybrid technology. These works have great practical significance for enterprise products renewal and energy-saving design.
