Because of the viscoelasticity of the cushion material and the complexity of the products, there are usually multiple vibration modals in the packaging system. The free acceleration response of the packaging system can be expressed as the linear combination of exponentials. To identify the zeros and residues accurately, a novel approach which incoporates the modified Prony method with structured nonlinear total least 1-norm method is presented. The experimental data and the simulation results indicate that the approach presented in this paper is accurate, the identified zeros and residues can be used to calculate the modal parameters of the packaging system, which are important for the packaging security assessment and the packaging improvement.
