Statistical soft wares facilitate data management and enhances the function of statistic. The statistical software SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) 13.0 served in this study to exam the construct and develop a related scale of occupational stress of coal miners. 55 safety professionals with diverse education backgrounds in the safe supervision division of a state coal mine were recruited. All of them completed a questionnaire with 12 items about occupational stress. We employed the EFA procedure (exploring factor analysis) to deal with survey data. After extracting component, drawing scree plot, varimax rotating and examing loading plots, a three-factor model was select finally. All the three factors could explain 53.79% variances totally. The loads that each factor attached to items were appropriate. The three factors represented the stress from workplace: health stress, deficiency of control and confusion about jobs.
