The variable flow technique for heating system circulating pump has the enormous energy-saving potential. The article sets forth the theory of variable flow, and brings forward a new method by using software to simulate a virtual control loop of the supply temperature of the secondary water system. This method can achieve a transformative and quantitive regulation for heating system without using motorized regulating valve and make variable flow control more economic. The article first discusses the theory of variable flow for heating circulating pump based on the analysis of Freedom of Degree. This variable flow technology has been applied to some project practices successfully by using intelligent controller developed by author and achieved good effects on energy saving. Some technical points about variable flow technology are discussed lastly. These may be helpful to those project practices which involve variable flow.
