  • Abstract
It is necessary to improve the focality of the transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) coil in order to minimize the undesired effects when the induced electric field exceeds the excitation threshold of the non-target tissues. In this paper, a new double-butterfly coil was proposed and its focality was compared with several other coil types such as butterfly coil and slinky coil. It is showed that the focality of the proposed coil has better focality than the butterfly and slinky coil. The effects of structural parameters on the HPR (Half Power Region, HPR) of the induced electrical field were carefully studied. Thus, suggestions on how to improve the focality of TMS coils are given.
