Abstract :
Driver behaviour is becoming an increasingly important part of traffic simulations and driving simulators. This paper will outline the development of a framework for a Driver Model Library (DML) that will result in a cross platform plug-in for traffic simulations at microscopic as well as network level. The DML provides driver decision making and behaviour based on a multi-agent cognitive framework. In this approach behaviour becomes the fundamental building block of the framework. This approach attempts to model the individual driving tasks and the influences on those tasks due to the driver´s characteristics. The framework includes resource management allowing for stressors such as fatigue and distraction to be modelled and influence driving behaviour.
