Abstract :
We propose an effective and robust method to enhance the color image under low or non-uniform lighting conditions that models global and local adaptation of the human visual system. The main idea is that we preserve the discontinuities of the local luminance with combined most significant bit and an adaptive smoothing mask. The local contrast enhancement adjusts the intensity of each pixel based on the discontinuities of the local luminance. we show enhanced images produced by the proposed method and make comparisons to other methods. The results indicate that the proposed method outperform several existing methods in both visual image quality and statistical information.
