Abstract
This paper presents an extended conic quadratic (ECQ) method to determine the system loadability and transfer capability in the presence of generalized unified power flow control (GUPFC) devices. The ECQ method is implemented as a primal-dual interior-point solver applied to the ECQ representation of the power network. The ECQ power network model has been recently introduced as an alternative to the classical formats which are based on the voltage polar coordinates model and the voltage rectangular model. This research introduces into the ECQ format (i) GUPFC devices represented via their power injection models and (ii) line thermal limits represented as linear inequality constraints for operating security limit determination. Numerical results on the IEEE 30 and a 2383 bus network demonstrate that the ECQ method is suitable for studying different formulations of load and transfer capability problems.
