Abstract :
The recent trend of wind power generator is to use variable speed wind turbines coupled with Direct Driven Permanent Magnet (DDPM) Synchronous Generators. This configuration offers a considerable flexibility in design and operation, as the output of the generator is delivered to the grid through a fully controlled frequency converter. In this paper, a new control strategy for this generation unit is presented, based on the Feed Back Linearization (FBL), a technique that allows both decoupling and linearization of a non linear multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system. The mathematical model for the control synthesis is derived, and simulation results are presented in order to show how the flexibility of the DDPM Wind Generator can be fully exploited thanks to the independent control of each variable performed with our approach. Moreover, both controller synthesis and system operation can be greatly simplified, thus making it easier to integrate this wind energy conversion system (WECS) in modern day smart grids.
