Abstract :
Given the global changes in energy generation and transmission, flexible multi-terminal HVDC networks have the potential to offer energy transfer from diverse and isolated generation sources, particularly offshore wind. In this review paper, the characteristics and control philosophies of multi-terminal networks are discussed and relevant applications are asserted. Future challenges for the widespread deployment of this technology are discussed. It is concluded that multi-terminal networks have the potential to play a significant part in the future of energy generation and transmission.
