Abstract :
The concern of keeping balance with ecological environment and historic context is the dominant trend of modern urban design in theory and practice. This paper is based on the project of "Urban Design for the Core Area of Jingzhou High-Tech Industrial Development Zone". The question is around how to design for a city with natural features and historic context, or how to include in this urban design some ecological and contextual factors-the natural landscape and ancient Chu culture. To implement the conception of designing with ecology and local context, each element such as urban fabric, city layout, architectural form and landscape is involved in the integration of modern urban design theory and methods with traditional city pattern and structure.
