Managing Urban Form and Architectural Character for the Sustainable Development in Jiangsu Province

In the rapid process of urbanization and accelerated economic development, urban form and architectural heritage are facing crucial challenges and negative impacts due to the urban expansion and renewal of old city centres. This paper made a brief investigation to typical urban form and architectural character in Jiangsu province and analyzed practical methods on managing evolution of the urban form and preserving architectural character through a case study of Wuxi city. Finally, strategic frameworks in Jiangsu province were proposed in three levels on region, city and architecture for sustainable development.
