Abstract :
This paper proposes an estimation method of rotor position for 3-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) based on the complex plane expression. The rotor position can be estimated simply without magnetic characteristics of the motor and additional hardware. The phase inductances are approximated by the Fourier series and the rotor position is estimated using the complex plane expression of them. At standstill, the DC bus voltage is applied to all the phases over a short time. During the rotation, the DC bus voltage is applied to the idle phases, and the rotor position is estimated. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed method.
