Abstract
There has been a significant increase in the demand of hard disk drives (HDD) used in portable devices. High shock resistance is an important requirement for the reliable performance of mobile drives. In this paper we conduct a numerical study to understand the effect of shock parameters on the failure of the head-disk interface (HDI) using a spinning disk model. The result shows that the HDD´s components have a strong influence on the shock resistance. This study can be helpful in improving the design of HDD components and air bearing sliders (ABS) for better shock performance.
