Abstract :
Underwater acoustic (UWA) communication is a cross subject of the communication technology and underwater acoustic signal processing technology, which is very valuable in military and civil applications. But the multipath effect of UWA channel leads to inter symbol interference (ISI) more than hundreds of code intervals, so it is necessary to apply an equalizer to eliminate the ISI in the receiving unit. This paper proposes two new weight initialization strategies for the least mean square (LMS) adaptive linear equalizer due to the bad performance with all zero initialization algorithm. Both the two new strategies improve the equalization performance of LMS adaptive linear equalizer and reduce the error code rate of the UWA communication system greatly.
