Abstract
With the changing acoustic sensitivity and requirements for thermal comfort in developing China, the acoustic evaluation of external windows becomes more important. This is particularly interesting in severe cold areas in China since there is a wide range of window types to keep warm. In this research, a series of field studies have been carried out, measuring the sound insulation and thermal insulation of different types of external windows, and also surveying people´s subjective evaluation. The relationships were then analysed, and based on that, some design strategies have been proposed.
