Abstract
Fractal mathematics is a new mathematic theory which has developed recently. Its research object is the complex natural phenomena and procedure that can´t be described with traditional mathematics theory. Fractal dimension is a very important parameter to be used as estimating surface roughness. According to innate difference between man-made targets and natural objects, Peleg algorithm was proposed to calculate the surface roughness of the target quickly and effectively. Simulation shows that fractal dimension of the man-made targets is lower than fractal dimension of the natural objects and it is feasible to differentiate man-made targets and natural objects by the fractal dimension calculation in mode recognition and image processing.
